Greetings, from Tenzing, Secretary to Rinpoche Tengboche, and his spouse Ang Jangmu, proprietors of Rivendell Lodge and Restaurant.
Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's magical Rivendell from The Lord of the Rings, Rivendell Lodge is a hidden gem nestled in the Himalayas, Just like the enchanting elvish valley, our lodge is tucked away in a serene, picturesque corner of Deboche, embraced by majestic mountains and a rushing, crystal-clear river.
Deboche is a tranquil settlement at 3,820m, surrounded by natural wonders. To the east, the towering slopes of Kangtega (6,783m) rise dramatically, while the west is framed by rolling hills that extend to the striking Taboche Peak (6,495m). The Imja Khola river, flowing from the glacial Imja Lake at 5,010m, weaves its way through this idyllic valley, creating a truly breathtaking setting.
At Rivendell Lodge, you're not just staying in a lodge—you’re stepping into a fairy tale. Our surroundings are blanketed in forests of rhododendrons and birch trees, where wildlife like musk deer and Impeyan pheasants (danphe) roam freely. If you venture to the riverbanks, you might even spot wild goats up close. The best part? No pesky insects to bother you, just pure tranquility and unspoiled nature.
We’re conveniently located a short 15-20 minute stroll from the famous Tengboche Monastery, a renowned spiritual center perched slightly higher at 3,860m. From Namche Bazaar, the bustling heart of the Sherpa community, our lodge is just a scenic 6-8 hour trek away. Whether you're heading to Kala Patthar (5,550m) for its iconic views of Mount Everest (Chomolungma) or celebrating a triumphant return from the summit itself, Rivendell Lodge is the perfect place to rest, recharge, and soak in the magic of the mountains.

Our Story
Rivendell Lodge’s journey began with a small teashop, lovingly managed by a couple, Tenzing and Ang Jangmu. Tenzing, who was a secretary to Tengboche Rinpoche, brought his patience and support to the venture. Jangmu, with her extensive experience from working in Austria, infused the business with her expertise.
